Mark Brant, reelected Nov. 5 as a Monroe County commissioner, soon will be off to federal prison. The Republican said he has no plans to resign and will collect a roughly $15,000 salary.

Michigan’s Board of State Canvassers voted unanimously to certify the 2024 general election on Friday, following certifications in all 83 counties earlier this month. A little over 5.7 million Michiganders voted in this election—the highest state turnout in history.

The votes by the county-level bipartisan canvassing boards marked a key step in the process of finalizing the tallies.
